And so we continue our journey through the yamas of the Yoga Sutras….
“Asteya” literally translates as “non-stealing,” but there is nuance to the meaning of this yogic observance. The urge to take comes from a feeling of inadequacy, the delusion that you are not enough, that you don’t have enough.
For folks who literally do not have enough resource to survive and thrive, the ethics of non-stealing, in my opinion, is highly debatable (but that discussion could take up an entirely separate post).
For all intents and purposes, I am speaking to those who materially have enough to survive and thrive, and for some reason still feel a sense of lack. This practice is a reminder that you don’t need anything else in order to be complete, you don’t need to achieve anything else in order to be complete, and you don’t need approval from anyone else in order to be complete. You are enough, in this moment and always.
I hope you enjoy this practice.
